Wamarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which we work, live and socialise. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who we recognise as Australia’s First Peoples whose cultural practices continue today.
For Wamarra, success is measured by more than the projects we deliver. It's about creating meaningful career pathways, supporting people to thrive and helping build stronger futures for generations to come.
In our first six years of operation, more than 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have built careers with Wamarra. Through mentoring, development opportunities and programs such as Yiira and Bulabul, our team are supported to build their skills, grow their confidence and progress into leadership positions.
The impact of these opportunities extends well beyond the workplace. Since joining Wamarra, 10 Aboriginal team members have purchased their first home, with six representing the first home ownership within their Aboriginal family lineage. These milestones reflect the difference that stable employment, support and opportunity can make for individuals, families and future generations.
Wamarra's impact also reaches into the communities it works alongside. Through partnerships with Aboriginal sporting clubs, community organisations and emerging talent, the business creates opportunities beyond its direct workforce. In the past year, Wamarra has engaged 20 social benefit suppliers and invested more than $80,000 in community sponsorships and partnerships.
Culture is central to this work. Through strong relationships with community, Traditional Owners, Aboriginal businesses and project partners, Wamarra continues to create environments where Aboriginal people can build successful careers while maintaining a strong connection to culture and community.
Managing Director Hayden Heta said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of Wamarra's people, partners and community.
“Wamarra is about more than building infrastructure. It’s about building connection, opportunity and a future where Aboriginal voices thrive. Every project we deliver creates meaningful pathways for our people, strengthens communities and honours our Country.”
Being named a finalist for the Kinaway Community Impact Award recognises the many people who contribute to Wamarra's purpose every day. Together, they are helping create opportunities that reach far beyond individual projects and leave a lasting impact for future generations.
