From site to service: Tyler Stone’s journey balancing a career and the Army Reserve

As ANZAC Day approaches, it’s a moment to pause and reflect, to recognise those who have served, and those who continue to serve today.

Tyler Stone, a proud Wurundjeri man, carries that sense of service through both his work as a plant operator and his commitment to the Army Reserve.

Tyler joined the Army Reserve looking for challenge, structure and a chance to build new skills. What he’s taken from it has gone well beyond training. Leadership, teamwork and composure under pressure now shape how he works on site.

Those skills are visible in the way crews operate, how decisions are made and how challenges are managed when pressure builds.

Balancing both commitments takes courage. It also takes systems that make it workable in practice.

Through the Resolve veteran and reservist engagement program, that support is built in. Flexible work arrangements and paid leave allow Reservists to attend training and meet service obligations while continuing their careers without disruption.

For Tyler, that support began with a conversation. Since then, both his work and his service have continued to develop side by side.

As we continue to grow our capability in the Defence sector, including delivery across critical infrastructure and membership in the Australian Government’s Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), that focus is becoming even more important.

Alongside capability growth sits a clear commitment to our people. Resolve is part of that commitment, providing practical support for veterans and Reservists to build long-term careers in construction while continuing their service.

With that support, Tyler is able to build his career on-site while continuing his service in the Army Reserve.

Tyler's story is a reminder that service doesn’t sit apart from everyday work. It carries through in how people approach their roles, support their teams and take responsibility for what they do each day.

It’s reservists like Tyler and many others across Australia who make sacrifices to continue serving while also showing up in their everyday work and communities, carrying that commitment and consistently long after the uniform comes off.
