Wamarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which we work, live and socialise. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who we recognise as Australia’s First Peoples whose cultural practices continue today.
For Wamarra, Phil's recognition is about more than an individual achievement. It reflects the importance of creating genuine career pathways that support Aboriginal people to build skills, confidence and long-term careers.
As part of his development journey, Phil participated in Wamarra's Bulabul program and has since progressed into a Leading Hand role. His willingness to keep learning, challenge himself and invest in his own development has helped him build capability and create new opportunities for himself and his future.

Across Symal Group, 59 active apprentices and trainees are currently participating in development pathways spanning civil construction, landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, work health and safety, and project management. Five participants currently sit within Wamarra, contributing to First Nations employment and career progression outcomes. These pathways help create opportunities for Aboriginal people to build skills, gain qualifications and progress into leadership positions within the industry.
Phil's recognition is significant not only because of what it represents for him personally, but because of what it represents for others. As a proud Gunditjmara man, father, leader and mentor, his journey demonstrates the impact that genuine opportunities can have when they are matched with determination and support.
