Wamarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which we work, live and socialise. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who we recognise as Australia’s First Peoples whose cultural practices continue today.
The Greenline Project is a transformative redevelopment of the north bank of the Yarra River Birrarung, with Site 1 delivering a new river edge for Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr parkland. It brings new life to the river’s edge, creating spaces that connect people, culture and nature. The project is designed to enhance the well-being of locals and visitors while caring for the ecological health of the river and its surroundings.
Wamarra, alongside Symal, proudly delivered the first stage of the City of Melbourne’s Greenline Project on Wurundjeri Country. Today, this stretch of river is a place where culture and community come together, inviting people to reconnect with one another and with Country.
Scope of works included:
Lighting, drainage and essential infrastructure to make the space safe, accessible and welcoming
Boardwalks and river-edge structures
Soft landscaping with meadows, native planting and biodiversity zones
Pathways, pavements and gathering spaces
Retaining walls, seating and stone features
Every step of the way, the work cared for Country - shielding important trees, protecting delicate habitats and shaping the riverbank with methods that leave minimal impact. Now, the land is ready and waiting, set to welcome everyone for the 2026 Australian Open and beyond.
