Wamarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which we work, live and socialise. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who we recognise as Australia’s First Peoples whose cultural practices continue today.
Wamarra was proud to play a key role in the Metro Tunnel Project, helping deliver the new Parkville Station beneath Grattan Street between Royal Parade and Leicester Street. With four entrances connecting directly to the University of Melbourne and Melbourne’s hospital precinct, the station will transform access to world-class education, health, and research facilities while easing pressure on local trams and roads.
Working in joint venture with Symal Infrastructure, Wamarra delivered the Parkville Station Urban Realm Legacy Works, combining resources and expertise to take on a highly complex scope. This included demolition and enabling works, earthworks, stormwater and drainage, civil structures, heritage bluestone reinstatement, granite and bluestone paving, landscaping, and traffic management. Additional works awarded during delivery included trenching for services, irrigation, and program acceleration.
The project presented significant challenges, from excavating around live services and contaminated soil to working in a sensitive, high-profile location surrounded by hospitals, universities, and heavy pedestrian traffic. The team carefully staged works, adopted strict environmental controls, and used tailored equipment to minimise vibration, dust, and noise impacts.
Innovation was central to delivery, with initiatives such as using crushed concrete instead of quarry material, on-site NDD bins for efficient disposal and service verification, and traffic management strategies that reduced disruption to stakeholders. These solutions helped the team deliver a critical piece of infrastructure that will create lasting benefits for the community.
