Monegeetta Brake Strip Reconstruction

Project completion April, 2022
Location Monegeetta, VIC
Client Department of Defence
Sectors Defence and security, Defence

Wamarra was engaged by the Department of Defence’s Land Engineering Agency at Monegeetta to upgrade the roadway leading into their brake testing strip. The existing asphalt surface was uneven, causing vehicles to pitch and roll on entry and impacting the accuracy of test results.

Our scope involved demolishing and removing almost 1,000m² of asphalt pavement and crushed rock, widening the roadway, and constructing over 1,400m² of new concrete pavement. Works also included placement of capping layers and crushed rock, primer sealing, saw cutting and caulking expansion joints, and reshaping swale drains. To ensure precision, a laser screed machine was used to achieve the required pavement grades.

Despite geotechnical testing revealing unsuitable conditions beneath sections of the existing pavement, the team worked closely with engineers to identify and rectify the subgrade with minimal impact to the program. The project was completed to a high standard and recognised by the Department of Defence for its quality, strengthening Wamarra’s reputation for delivering complex works in specialised environments.
