Wamarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which we work, live and socialise. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who we recognise as Australia’s First Peoples whose cultural practices continue today.
Wamarra was awarded the DC trenching and site compound package at the Glenrowan West Solar Farm. This expansive solar farm, covering an extensive 323-hectare tract of land, is strategically situated adjacent to the Hume Freeway, between Benalla and Wangaratta.
The solar farm boasts over 373,000 solar panels, which can generate substantial electricity, successfully meeting the energy demands of approximately 41,000 local households.
This energy output supports the community’s power needs and contributes to the region’s transition towards a more sustainable future. Annually, the solar farm is expected to prevent approximately 110,000 tonnes of C02 emissions, effectively combating climate change and reducing the region’s carbon footprint.
The scope of works included:
The installation of over 4 kilometres of trenches in widths ranging from 300mm to 1200mm
Trenches for DC cables, including excavation, sand installation, tape installation and backfill 28 individual road crossings
Backfilling, soil compaction and testing Completion ITP/ITC and Punchlist
Stockpiling of excess excavated material
HV tie-ins to invertor pads
Despite challenges such as trenching through winter and adapting to weather conditions, Wamarra successfully completed the project within the designated timeframe and budget. They also managed to secure variations for HV tie-ins and adjusted sequencing to accommodate weather forecasts. Importantly, their collaboration with UGL was strengthened, paving the way for potential future endeavors.
