The upgrade will help the crossing better handle heavy rain, allowing more water to move through Pakenham Creek and reducing the risk of flooding for nearby homes and businesses. By replacing the old three-cell culvert with a new five-cell structure, the capacity of the crossing has increased significantly, helping make this stretch of road safer and more reliable for the community.
Our crews began by removing the existing road and culvert before getting to work building the new structure from the ground up. Large precast culvert units were installed onto a newly poured base slab, followed by extensive drainage works and the construction of new headwalls and wingwalls.
As the structure took shape, the team completed the finishing works across the site, including new asphalt, guardrails and handrails, rock beaching to protect the creek banks, and a shared user path to improve access through the area.
Projects like this are about more than infrastructure. They’re an opportunity for our people to build skills, take on new challenges and learn from one another on the ground. From working with large precast elements to coordinating complex concrete and drainage works, our crews gained experience that will carry forward into future projects.
We’re proud of the work delivered here, and proud of the team behind it. It’s the kind of project that quietly makes a difference—keeping roads open, protecting nearby properties, and leaving something solid behind for the community.
