Wamarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which we work, live and socialise. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who we recognise as Australia’s First Peoples whose cultural practices continue today.
Six years ago, Wamarra was founded by Managing Director and proud Wiradjuri man Hayden Heta to create real opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in construction.
Since then, we’ve grown together as a team, delivering over 160 projects across Victoria and New South Wales.
We are currently undertaking the $42 million expansion of the Myambat Explosive Ordnance Depot in the Hunter Valley as Head Contractor for the Department of Defence. The largest project in our history and a key milestone in our growing capability within the defence sector.
Creating opportunity in construction.
At the heart of everything we do are our people. With a majority Aboriginal workforce of more than 90 team members, we’ve contributed over 420,000 Aboriginal employment hours, creating meaningful careers in construction. Through programs like our Bulabul Leadership Development Program, we invest in the next generation of leaders, giving our people the skills, support and opportunities to grow.
Reflecting on this milestone, Hayden said:
“Seeing our people grow, develop their careers and make a real impact across the industry is something we’re incredibly proud of. The foundations we’ve built over the past six years give us great confidence in what the future holds.”
Our work has also been recognised across the industry. In 2025, we were named Indigenous Business of the Year – Regional at the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Summit Awards and received the Corporate Partner Innovation in Indigenous Partnership Award at the Kinaway Business Awards for our work with the Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance (EBTA). These achievements highlight the impact of our partnerships and the role of social procurement in creating lasting opportunities for our people and communities.
Six years on, we are proud of what we’ve built and even more excited for what’s ahead. With a growing pipeline of projects, expanding capability and continued investment in our people, we remain committed to creating opportunity, strengthening community and building better futures in construction.
