Last Thursday night we launched Wamarra to an audience of industry partners, employees, family and friends. Wamarra is a self-performing civil contractor providing meaningful careers to Aboriginal people through long term and sustainable employment.
We would like to thank all those who attended our very special industry event and helped celebrate the launch of Wamarra alongside Managing Director Hayden Heta and the Wamarra team.
A special thank you to Hobsons Bay City Council Deputy Mayor Cr Sandra Wilson and Co-Founder for the Out for Good initiative and Wamarra industry partner Wade Noonan for speaking at the launch, Uncle Shane Clarke for performing the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony and the Koori Youth Will Shake Spears who performed their traditional dances on the night. Thanks also to catering company Charcoal Lane for the magnificent array of food on the night.
Deputy Mayor Cr Sandra Wilson said in her speech, “Council is proud to support such an important initiative and congratulates Symal Group and Wamarra on a strong partnership that will provide meaningful career opportunities to Aboriginal people through long-term and sustainable employment – an aim that rings true in Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan.”
Wamarra has formed a partnership with the Out for Good initiative. Executive Director of the West of Melbourne Economic Development Alliance (WOMEDA) Wade Noonan co-founded the Out for Good initiative who said, “What excites me about Wamarra is their capacity to build a stronger and more inclusive community, whilst helping deliver our state-shaping infrastructure.”
The launch atmosphere was one of the community coming together highlighted by guests participating in the smoking ceremony held at Symal Group and Wamarra head office in Spotswood. Managing Director Hayden Heta said, “To see so many people take the time to be here and support us was moving. It highlights the care and passion people within the industry and community have for Aboriginal participation. It showed me we’re on this journey together”.
