Wamarra wins at Wurreker Awards 2022

We are thrilled to announce that Wamarra has been recognised with the Private Sector Employer Award and our valued team member Allan Norris received the nominated award for Private Sector Employee at the Wurreka Awards 2022.

The Wurreker Awards, presented by VAEAI (Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Inc) and the Victoria Government, recognise excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, training, and development across private and public sectors.

The awards are presented to individuals, organisations and businesses that have demonstrated significant achievement in their respective fields and made a positive contribution to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Both awards highlight the dedication our team members and the business have for creating better opportunities within the industry for Indigenous communities.

Private Sector Employer Award

We are immensely proud to have been recognised with the Private Sector Employer Award for our commitment to providing quality and meaningful employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

At Wamarra, we are committed to fostering a workplace that values diversity and inclusion. We are proud to have created a safe, supportive and respectful environment for our team and to have provided a platform for our employees to reach their full potential.

Special mention to First Nations Traffic, Pathways Plumbing and John Holland who were all shortlisted.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff, clients and partners who have supported us in achieving this recognition.

Private Sector Employee Award – Allan Norris

Allan is a proud Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri man who was Wamarra’s very first employee.

Initially brought on as a qualified carpenter, Allan has grown his career with the company to take on a leadership role as Project Manager. He excels at helping the business to achieve our goals while actively promoting and supporting the cultural identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As a result, Allan has become a role model for many people in the community and has played an integral role in Wamarra’s success to date.

We would like to congratulate all the category nominees and finalists in this year’s VAEAI Awards and would like to thank everyone that has been on the journey with Wamarra and we cannot wait to continue living our vision in the future.
