Building futures: Jake Western’s journey with Wamarra

Wamarra’s driven by a mission to enhance the economic independence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through long-term, meaningful career opportunities. Stories like Jake Western’s remind us why this work matters.

Jake, a proud Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba man, spent nine years working in abattoirs before deciding it was time for a change. Craving a new challenge and a fulfilling career, he took a leap of faith into civil construction – joining the Wamarra team six months ago.

Now working as a Labourer on North East Link, Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance (EBTA), Jake has embraced the opportunity with both hands. His dedication, ambition, and positive attitude have seen him thrive in his new role, making a real impact on site.

Jake’s journey is a powerful example of how meaningful employment can transform lives. His story embodies what we stand for at Wamarra – empowering individuals through sustainable careers and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to reach their full potential.
