Why is the system changing?

Symal started the journey of changing Payroll systems in 2021.

The new system will take into consideration labor budgets, employee preferences, payroll rules and allow workers to be track time worked across projects.

Other functions the system will enable Payroll, Onboarding, Employee Data and Learning Management System to be run from one platform as a single source of truth.

Dayforce will assist with:

  • Promoting visibility and agility
  • The schedule function of Ceridian will establish where and when employees are working and the jobs they will be performing.
What is changing?

You may have seen the communications shared with the business; Dayforce is our new system that provides efficiencies and accuracy for allocations, timesheets/time keeping and payroll. The changes that will result from this software being implemented include:

  • The allocations team will allocate people to shifts (they will still send text messages as normal)
  • You’ll be able to view your allocated shifts on
  • You will complete your timesheets/time keeping via an app
  • You will be able to submit leave requests via the app
  • Managers will be able to approve leave requests
  • Personal details will be able to be updated on the app
What phone do you need to be able to download the app?

The minimum support mobile operating systems are:

  • IOS9 or Android 6.0.
  • Mobile Browsers for both Phones and Tablets are not supported for Employees and Administrators.

You can download Dayforce for most phones, with the following minimum hardware requirements:

  • iPhone 6s or later required
  • Android Version 5.0 or higher
What information is stored on my phone when I use the Dayforce mobile app?

Only your Company ID and username are stored. Your password is not stored on your device, except for Apple devices that support Touch ID. If you use Touch ID, then your password is encrypted and stored on your device. The Dayforce mobile app does not store any other information on your device. What is the best browser to support Dayforce?

When using your Symal issued computer the best browser to support Dayforce is Microsoft Edge.

Do I have to use the app?

You are more than welcome to use the app or browser. Please know that some functionality is only available through the browser like downloading your payslips.

How do I access Dayforce on my Symal issued laptop?

You can access the Dayforce through this link:  https://sso.dayforcehcm.com/symal

How do I reset my Dayforce mobile app password?

As you will be logged in using Single Sign On you will not need to update your password in Dayforce. If you need to reset your password please do it through Microsoft Authenticator.

Are there differences between the iOS and Android Dayforce mobile app versions?

While there are differences in the look and feel of some features, both platforms have the same features and functionality remains the same.

Can I access Dayforce from another employee’s computer?

Yes, the owner of the computer will need to logout and they can select the “Use another account” option.

  • What happens if I don’t have enough time accrued to cover my leave?

What happens if I don’t have enough time accrued to cover my leave?

Dayforce time away function does not allow you to go into a negative leave balance. If you are applying for future leave and you do not have the leave balance, please apply for leave without pay. The payroll team will apply any applicable leave balances for your 

Can leave requests be exported to outlook?

Not at the moment. We are working with the developer to see if we can have this functionality added as a future update. Watch this space!

What happens when my manager is on leave with leave requests?

Your manager will delegate their authority to approve leave to ensure leave requests can be actioned in their absence.

How do I know if my leave has been approved?

You will receive a notification once your manager has actioned your leave request.

What happens if my leave is declined?

Speak to your manager regarding why the leave was declined and reapply as required.

Who should I speak to if I have any queries about my leave balances?

Please contact payroll@symal.com.au 

Does my leave request go straight to my manager?

Yes. Managers will be instantly notified of leave requests via email. Managers are able to action the leave request either by accessing the app or web browser.

Payroll

  • How will I know if the times I have entered are approved?
  • What happens if I move jobs at the last minute and the roster has not been updated?
  • Do I still need to record employees’ start and finish time on my Day sheet?
  • Do I still need to record any special site considerations (I.e. inclement weather, nightshift etc.) on the day sheet?
  • I have worked under multiple cost codes at a job, what do I do?
  • I have made a mistake on my timesheet. Can I resubmit the times that I have entered?
  • Do I still need to record long distance travel and LAFHA in the App?
  • Do I need to log on to Dayforce to approve employee timesheets?
  • Do I need to advise the Allocations team if there is a change to my shift like working overtime? 
  • Can Payroll update my bank details for me?
  • I have an Incolink / Co-Invest / Cbus form that I need to submit to Payroll. What do I do?
How will I know if the times I have entered are approved?

The icon on your timesheet will show as approved 

What happens if I move jobs at the last minute and the roster has not been updated?

Employees can change work location themselves in app as all work assignments/locations will be against employee profile.

Do I still need to record employees’ start and finish time on my Day sheet?

Yes, hard copy day sheets will still be used to track employee’ start and finish times.

Do I still need to record any special site considerations (I.e. inclement weather, nightshift etc.) on the day sheet?

Yes, all information that is currently entered on hard copy day sheets should still be entered each day.

I have worked under multiple cost codes at a job, what do I do?

You only need to enter one cost code per day.

I have made a mistake on my timesheet. Can I resubmit the times that I have entered?

Yes, please make sure you add any comments so the payroll team can verify the changes.

Do I still need to record long distance travel and LAFHA in the App?

Yes, please record in the comments section of the App. 

Do I need to log on to Dayforce to approve employee timesheets?

The relevant timesheets will be sent to pre-selected managers for approval.

Do I need to advise the Allocations team if there is a change to my shift like working overtime? 

No, you will add shift changes when you complete your timesheet or submit your hours on the Dayforce app and day sheet. Dayforce will then automatically calculate overtime owing to you.

Can Payroll update my bank details for me?

You are now able to update your bank details directly from the Dayforce browser. Alternatively you can email payroll@symal.com.au or payroll@wamarra.com.au to have your details updated.

I have an Incolink / Co-Invest / Cbus form that I need to submit to Payroll. What do I do?

Please email them directly to payroll@symal.com.au  or payroll@wamarra.com.au.
