Three Ways Roads

Wamarra partnered with the New South Wales Government and the Griffith Local Aboriginal Land Council as part of the multi-million-dollar Roads to Home project, which supports infrastructure upgrades in 34 discrete Aboriginal communities across the state in a wider effort to produce better social outcomes in regional communities.

The Griffith section of the project centred around revitalising the Three-Ways Road network and embodied Wamarra’s dedication to creating sustainable employment pathways for Aboriginal people. With a focus on road resealing and infrastructure enhancements to mitigate the impact of future flood events, this project enhanced accessibility, safety, and quality of life for residents in the Griffith region.

  • The scope of works included:
  • Installation of several new drainage lines and pits across the mission
  • New Colourbond and front fencing for 18 lots
  • Road rebuild/widening on Goolagong and Kennedy Streets
  • New footpaths, kerbing and driveways throughout the community
  • Landscaping to the verges
  • Swale and basin works to deal with runoff.

In addition to dealing with an unsuitable subgrade and finding an appropriate solution to achieving gravity powered drainage across a flat site, the biggest challenge of the project was maintaining access for the residents, who remained in their homes for the duration of the works. To ensure that we had as little impact on their day-to-day lives as possible, we communicated regularly with the community to ensure they could get to their houses when needed and staged works accordingly.
