National Reconciliation Week is a time for all of us to reflect on the past, embrace diversity and move towards a more united future under this year’s theme “Be a Voice for Generations.”
The Wamarra team embarked on captivating cultural tours throughout the week, immersing themselves not only in the rich history held by our team but also in the diverse traditions and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
The First Peoples exhibition at Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Melbourne Museum set the scene for cultural history before the team embarked on a city walking tour with Yalinguth.
Our team heard powerful storytelling from proud Yorta Yorta man Jason Tamiru who passionately expressed the challenges and triumphs of Aboriginal people in the City of Melbourne over the years. We can’t change the past, but we can make a difference in the future.
At Wamarra, we pride ourselves on providing our Indigenous and non-Indigenous employees with tools to be empowered and encourage participation in cultural awareness activities for continuous learning about our shared heritage and experiences.
Thanks to our Managing Director Hayden Heta, for leading the charge as Chair of the Symal Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Committee to create a more inclusive environment as diverse as our communities
Reconciliation is a continuous effort and ongoing journey for all. By collectively taking these steps, Wamarra and its staff contribute to building a more united country.
